Dear Supporters & Alta IF affiliates,
It is with great excitement we begin the 2019 season all together in Finnmarkshallen, against a good opponent and fellow Northern Norwegian Club in FK Mjolner. We welcome them. Not only do we kick off in a match some may consider a derby, but we also do so to showcase our new playing identity to our fans and friends in Finnmark.
Rewinding to January when I first arrived, we knew the Club would be in a transition period as we faced the beginning of pre-season, considering 7 important Alta IF players and the previous Coaching Staff from last season had moved on. My vision for Alta IF Fotball this year has been clear since before I arrived in the city, and that was to build a team with a fierce competitive mentality that is capable of controlling the game with the ball. It is very demanding from a mental, technical and positional perspective to achieve this, as I am requiring the Alta IF players to press in the opponent's half and play through their lines, while continuing to compete on the physical aspect of the game.
It is with these football concepts in mind, that we scouted and signed 6 new players, while promoting several Academy talents. Before bringing Brage Pedersen, Kyle Spence,
Andreas Van der Spa, Guyon Philips, Gustav Severinsen and Simon Laugsund to Alta, we got to know them both as footballers and as people. It is vital to me that all of the Alta IF players have a strong personality, ability to learn new ideas, and a good technical level when controlling the ball. All of the new signings and promoted youth talents have shown these qualities
The squad is composed of an excellent mix of experienced and younger players, led by our captain team of Mats Frede Hansen, Håvard Nome, Christian Reginiussen and Magnus Nikolaisen. The technical staff is confident these 4 players represent the values and history of Alta IF to its core and will play an important role in both the good and difficult moments of this season.
While we have a diverse squad with players from Spain, England, Holland and Latvia, over 75% of the team is from Northern Norway and Finnmark, something I felt was important when starting this new project.
Many have asked me what Alta IF's objective is this season. I have always answered the same: Our aim this year is to respect our football identity every-time we step on the field, as we represent this very special Club with over 91 years of history. As a consequence of that, I am convinced we will be fighting for the top spots in the league and turn some heads in the Cup.
It is an honor for me to serve Alta IF as Head Coach. We are working tirelessly every day to bring an entertaining and winning team to our supporters. I look forward to getting to know everyone throughout the season. All together, we are stronger.
Enjoy the match and Heia Alta!
